The DORNBIRN MAN-MADE FIBERS CONGRESS (DORNBIRN-MFC) was held for the first time in 1962 in the premises of the Textile College Dornbirn; 180 persons participated in 13 lectures. Under the patronage of CIRFS the congress has grown to an annual event with more than 700 participants from 30 countries. In 3 halls of the Kulturhaus Dornbirn more than 100 lectures are presented.

Innovation is encouraged at the congress by the redeemed PAUL SCHLACK MAN-MADE FIBER PRIZE (the inventor of polyamide 6 / Perlon) which is awarded to an academic institution for research work carried out on man-made fibers.
